Raio de Sol Mardi Gras 2024
Welcome to the Rio de Sol Mardi Gras 2024
Parade info hub!
We also received news of our Float!! We are #172 and are expected to be signed in to the holding area before 6pm to parade at 10:05PM.
Please see the below updated MARDI GRAS DAY SCHEDULE.
Raio de Sol and it’s members have been involved in Mardi Gras since 2015 and is one of the biggest events we attend every year. Raio de Sol’s involvement came from a member wanting to show support for their family member who is part of the LGBTQIA+ community. We continue that support for not just our Raio members, but our family and friends. This experience is unmatched and we feel privileged to take part in such an amazing celebration annually!
Every year Mardi Gras has a theme for the parade, this year the theme is “our future is…” Our float’s theme to follow on that theme is “Our future is…connection through rhythms”.
This theme is tied to Raio de Sol’s music and how it brings people together and the energy we give to the people around us. Our dancers give colour and visual connection to the rhythms and encourage others to join in on the fun!
This years float will have up to 40 participants consisting of:
Responsible to act as the official liaison and emergency contact between the Entrant and Mardi Gras organisers on Parade day with one to lead our float on the Parade route by carrying the Entrant Group Name sign provided by Organisers.
Media Assistant
Taking photos and video in the holding area and during the parade and assisting the creative team with decorations where needed.
Other Drummers (NSW) and Raio de Sol members (ACT)
This section will consist of the song leader and drummers from Raio de sol and other drummers. Drummers to assist asset transport team with unload and reloading of instruments and flags.
ACT Dancers
Reporting to Dance leader, dancers to assist all other parties where needed. Dancers to bring minimal items on the day such as, sarong, thongs or light sandals, phone, keys and ID.

Travel and Accomodation
Everyone is responsible for their own travel and accomodation to Sydney and travel to the meeting point on the day. Please travel safe and plan extra time to get to Hyde Park as there will be a lot of road closures and traffic on the day.
I encourage everyone to seek travel buddies and shared accomodation to reduce personal cost and it’s just more fun with company!
